PINK CUBE Roadshow

Together against breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. In Switzerland, around 6,800 women and 60 men are diagnosed with the disease every year.

Although treatment options have improved, breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death among women in Switzerland: one woman dies of breast cancer every six hours.

Early detection can save lives! Because the earlier breast cancer is detected and treated, the greater the chances of recovery.

Breast cancer screening in the PINK CUBE

With the PINK CUBE, we bring breast cancer prevention directly to the people - in city centres, train stations and village squares.

We inform, advise and examine. A gynaecologist offers a free breast examination and visitors learn how to palpate their own breasts. We explain what a mammogram is, how a breast cancer screening programme works and much more.

The PINK CUBE programme is aimed at women and men of all ages - and is free of charge. Registration is not necessary.

mammography

Mammography is the most important examination for the early detection of breast cancer.

Mammography is a special X-ray examination of the breast that can make even the smallest changes visible – including those that are not yet palpable. The examination only takes a few minutes and is carried out in radiology practices or hospitals.

Recommendation

Women aged 50 and over should have a mammogram every two years as part of a quality-assured mammography screening programme.

Gynaecological examination

All women should attend regular gynaecological check-ups.

Breast self-examination

Breast self-examination is not a recognised screening method. However, it can help women become more familiar with their bodies, so that any changes that may indicate breast cancer can be identified and checked by a doctor. Every woman should incorporate breast self-examination into her monthly routine.

BREAST TEST APP

With the BREAST TEST app, you integrate breast examination effortlessly in your monthly routine and you have the chance to recognise changes and have them quickly checked by a doctor.

Simple and uncomplicated

Breast self-examination does not replace regular gynaecological check-ups!

FAQs

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.

At diagnosis, one in five women is younger than age 50.

Early detection can save lives, enable less invasive therapies, and spare those affected much suffering.

The PINK CUBE offers an ideal opportunity to learn more about early breast cancer detection. In the PINK CUBE, you will learn what is important for the early detection of breast cancer and what you can do yourself for your breast health.

In the PINK CUBE, a gynaecologist will welcome you. In a conversation with them, you will learn more about breast cancer, risk factors and early detection methods. You will receive answers to your questions. The gynaecologist will perform a clinical breast examination and teach you how to perform a breast self-examination. The consultation with the doctor will take approximately 5-7 minutes.

In front of the PINK CUBE, there are women from the breast cancer patient organisation EUROPA DONNA Switzerland and the Cancer League. They explain what happens in the PINK CUBE, demonstrate the BREAST TEST app to assist with self-examination of the breast, and can provide information on many questions regarding breast cancer and support for those affected. Furthermore, you can feel what a lump is like on a breast model and watch a video explaining how a mammogram works and why it is so important.

Admission to the PINK CUBE is free.

The gynaecologist cannot diagnose breast cancer by physical examination alone. However, initial signs of breast cancer could be detected. In this case, further examination is recommended.

Important to know: Not every change that is discovered is a cause for concern. It can be harmless. However, it is always recommended to have changes in the breast medically checked.

Early detection of breast cancer reduces risk, as it enables an earlier diagnosis, thus less invasive therapies and increases the chances of recovery.

The Mammography is the most important examination for the early detection of breast cancer and is recommended for women aged 50 and over every two years. Many – but unfortunately not all – cantons offer mammography as part of organised early detection programmes. In these cases, basic health insurance covers the cost of the examination.

Every woman should attend recommended gynaecological check-ups. Furthermore, regular breast self-examination can help you become more familiar with your body and recognise changes that should be medically investigated.

Further information can be found at Early detection.

Due to intensive research in recent years, knowledge about breast cancer and treatment options has improved significantly.

As a general rule, the earlier breast cancer is detected and treated, the higher the chances of a recovery.

The PINK CUBE is primarily about raising awareness of breast cancer and the possibilities of early detection. We want to increase awareness of breast cancer and the important role of early detection, and to show what every woman and every man can do for their own breast cancer prevention.

Also present are women from the breast cancer patient organisation EUROPA DONNA Switzerland and the Cancer League. They know what a diagnosis and living with breast cancer mean. They will answer visitors' questions and can provide information on various self-help and support services, among other things. These include, for example, CancerInfo – the Cancer League's counselling service, as well as EUROPA DONNA Switzerland's regular get-together TAVOLA ROSA and the »Focus me" app, which promotes exchange among those affected by breast cancer.
